How we do short & quality homeschool lessons WITHOUT feeling behind! (Homeschooling kids with Anxiety, & ADHD)

#1- Homeschooling with a Block Schedule
The very first thing that I recommend is a block schedule. So one of the key tells in our home school about how we can do these short quality lessons, how we can make sure we’re covering all the content that we want to cover, and how I make sure I don’t feel like we’re behind… Is all due to us blocking our time.
Now blocking your time can be as simple as saying-
In the morning we’re going to do this, in the afternoon we’re going to do this, and in the evening we’re gonna do this.
The way that we block schedule is based on about two hour increments. Now the reason that we do it based on two hour increments is that I do still have a toddler that naps. So two hour increments- because they’re even numbers- help us see throughout the day what we are doing, and prevents us from getting overwhelmed.
You can see the full block schedule in the video above, and you can also see my full DITL as a Working Small business owning Homeschool Mom, linked below.

#2- Standards vs Goals
The next thing I wanted to talk about is standards… specifically the national core standards.
Now you do not have to follow the national core standards as a homeschooler.
You do not.
I’ve had a lot of people that want to follow them as a template to learning, and because I have a bachelor’s degree in elementary education I was able to create a guide for that!
Right now it’s only for preschool through third grade but we are going to be adding fourth, fifth, and sixth this next year.
I was able to add a semi-standard-based approach to homeschooling, but that approach is in a very simple, effective, and not overwhelming way. If you join my email list, you will gain access to the Subsciber Freebie Library. And this guide is a really awesome free download that can help give you an overview of some GOAL based learning, rather than standard based.
Why?
Because a standard is meant for comparison. It is designed to compare one person to the other, one school to another, and so forth.
A Goal is an individualized approach designed to compare YOU to who you were yesterday or last year.
So if you head over to the subscriber freebie library, you will be able to get that download and it’ll be so much easier to have these short quality lessons and not feel like you’re behind… because for the most part homeschool children need less instruction, because we have smaller class sizes.
We have one-on-one instruction that public school students don’t have.
You have the ability to curate a less stressful load for your child -and for yourself.
#3 Why is it important to have short quality lessons rather than long quantity lessons??
Quality over quantity is increasingly important.
Quality focuses on: “Does my child understand this?” or “Is my child learning, and solidifying that knowledge?”
Quantity focuses on: “How many pages did my child do?” or “How long did it take them to do this set of problems?”
Both can be used, but “quantity” should be used sparingly.
