What is your teaching philosophy?

Our teaching philosophy stems from the idea that children learn best in the following ways:

  • When they are interested in the material.
  • When they are surrounded with choices, varying in media type.
  • When subjects are read, written or drawn about, and discussed.
  • When learning is active, and hands on.
  • When children are read to, before they can read. And reading to themselves and to others, when they can.
  • When as many subjects as possible, are combined. Such as Science with Reading, Writing, Art, and History of that Science. And sometimes combining Math.

The following philosophies and approaches align with our teaching.

  • Thomas Jefferson Education Approach– In TJEd, the “Seven Keys of Great Teaching” are Classics, not Textbooks; Mentors, not Professors; Inspire, not Require; Structure Time, not Content; Quality, not Conformity; Simplicity, not Complexity; and You, not Them.
  • Progressivism Philosophy– Progressivists believe that education should focus on the whole child, rather than on the content or the teacher.
  • Constructivism Philosophy– By reflecting on our experiences, we construct our own understanding of the world we live in.
  • The Reggio-Emilia Approach– Student-centered and constructivist that uses self-directed, experiential learning in relationship-driven environments.
  • Positivism Philosophy– Certain knowledge is based on natural occurrences, and positive thinking.
  • Humanism Philosophy– Humanism is a philosophical and ethical stance that emphasizes the value and agency of human beings.
  • Socratic Method– Asking questions to find an answer.
  • Charlotte Mason– Self paced, interested learning.
  • Montessori– Individual and Independent Learning

What ages are your studies for?

The majority of our studies are created for whole family use, so all ages!

We do have a few studies and guides that are specific to an age or grade; such as our ABC guide, and PreK ABC Guides; for beginners to the ABC’s! Usually PreK-1st grade.

Our Math units are grouped in ages, K-5 starting out.

We believe in age/grade groupings, rather than just by age or grade.

K-3, 4-6, 7-8, and 9-12.
