Start homeschooling after a break:
- When you are taking a break, see what your kids are doing that could count. Whether it is reading (ELA), cooking or hopscotch (MATH), educational TV shows (Science or History), or something else- write it down, or take note of it. It will help a lot with the imposter syndrome that can come from taking a break!
- Once you get back into the structure of schooling, go slowly. Don’t add in everything at once. Spread it throughout a day instead of trying to get everyone to sit still for an extended time… Do one subject, and take it from there. Don’t jump in ALL the way or most likely, you will get burnt out SUPER fast.
Why do we school year round??
- Flexibility!!!
- Vacations can be taken when everyone else is in school!!
- Structured schooling vs unstructured schooling examples: We structured school for 1-2 hours, 4 days a week. The rest of the days are “unschooling” or unstructured schooling. This makes it so that “every day counts”
Homeschooling multiple ages
- The reason for the curriculum on our website. Makes it easier, more affordable, and able to be used for every child!! We use a level based system, because children aren’t standard. They can be in more than one level at a time, and that is TOTALLY normal. “Grades” are standard. Your child is not.
- See the video for a sample homeschool schedule!
- We do Science, History, and Social Studies TOGETHER. Math, and ELA are done separately, my kids take turns taking ‘breaks’ while I work with the other one. Like I mention in the post below, short quality lessons do a lot more for a child than long, drawn out ones.
