Homeschool Portfolio Series #1: Digital Portfolios

Welcome to our new series, all about Homeschool Portfolios!
This is post #1 (and video #1! Scroll down to see that)
Here is post #2: Physical Portfolios
Homeschool Portfolio Series #1: Digital Portfolios
A digital portfolio. Why? Here are a few reasons that we love digital portfolios.
- Space saving! You don’t have to keep all the work, drawings, art projects- You take pictures and videos and upload them! Saves so much space AND time, and it is a great way to submit your portfolio to the district or state if you have to do that.
- SIMPLE. Everyday we simply upload the pictures and videos we have taken at school time, and write about it. That’s it!
A digital portfolio. How? We use Trello!
We use Trello for our digital portfolios, but you can also:
- Make an Instagram account and save items there.
- Send them to a specific email.
- Save them to Google Drive, or One Note.
We already have a video of how to set up a Trello board, but we also have a new video of our new Trello board!
See those below:
A digital portfolio. What do we save?
We have a few different sections in our digital portfolio.
- Read alouds
- Daily schedule, that we save to “Journal”
- Lists of goals and standards, that we save to “Completed”
- Anything else I want to keep record of! Such as our schedule/rhythm, goals that my kids have for the year vs goals I have, and more. See that last video above for a video on this!
I take pictures of the pages we do everyday, or my kids in the middle of an activity. Sometimes I take extra pictures and videos, sometimes just the bare minimum. I then upload those as attachments to Trello!
This way, I don’t have to keep many consumable items (we do keep some, you will see what on the next post about physical portfolios!); and its a great way to make your kids ok with throwing away drawings!
